No, I’m Not Putting Bones Back in Place

The most common misconception I come across is that I’m going to be moving bones back into place during a chiropractic treatment.

In fact, a chiropractic adjustment is a short, sharp force applied with my hands to specific areas of the animal’s body. When I find a restriction within a joint in the spine or pelvis, I use a quick, specific adjustment, which triggers a neurological and muscular response. This in turn improves joint function, and therefore movement.

So the adjustment isn’t physically forcing a bone into place. Instead, it produces a reflex response in the surrounding tissues, helping the muscles to release, which then allows the joint to move more freely.
